2007 Sidney Myer International Ceramic Award

Terms and Conditions of Entry

  1. This is an international exhibition and competition. All styles of work are acceptable for entry providing the work is predominantly made from ceramics which has been produced by the artist. Each artist may submit one entry. The Director of the Shepparton Art Gallery as the administrator of the Award reserves the right to reject an entry if it is considered not to meet the afore stated criteria for entry.
  2. The Shepparton Art Gallery is located in Northern Victoria, Australia. The Gallery is owned by the City of Greater Shepparton. It is reputed for its collection of Australian ceramics. Competition winners will be announced on 7th March 2008, the exhibition will remain open until 27th April 2008.
  3. The judge will be a ceramist of international renown whose name will be made public after the finalists are chosen.
  4. The judge will select the exhibition from the artworks. The Awards will be chosen from the selected works sent to the Shepparton Art Gallery. One outstanding entry will win the Premier Award of AUD$15,000. Other Merit Awards total value of AUD$9,000 will also be awarded. All award-winning ceramics become part of the Shepparton Art Gallery’s collection with the exception of the La Trobe University Merit Award which becomes part of the University’s collection on long term loan to the Shepparton Art Gallery. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding any decision made by the judge. Several “Special Acquisitions” may or may not be made for the Shepparton Art Gallery. If a work is chosen as a “Special Acquisition” the entrant will be paid the stated sale price for the works less the commission charged by the Shepparton Art Gallery.
  5. All exhibited works must be for sale and a 22% commission including GST will be charged by the Gallery on works sold.
  6. The images, entry form and C.V. must be at the Shepparton Art Gallery by 1st October 2007. Send a maximum of 3jpg image files on CD, each no greater than 500kb and 800 – 1000 pixels. The image must be of the actual work entered. The artists name and the title of the work must appear as the image title file name. All images and curriculum vitae’s will be retained by the gallery for archival records. Entrants will be notified of the judge’s selection on 5th November 2007.
  7. Short listed works must arrive at Shepparton Art Gallery by 12th December 2007, and must be addressed to: The Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramics Award, Shepparton Art Gallery, Eastbank Centre, 70 Welsford Street, Shepparton, Victoria, Australia 3630. Packaging must be clearly labelled with the entrant’s name.
  8. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  9. The Gallery Director has the right to withdraw from the exhibition any work if it is considered to be significantly different from the work illustrated in submitted jpg image and if it is of a quality considered unsuitable for an international competition and exhibition.
  10. All entries must be the original work of the entrant and executed within the last 12 months prior to the date of entry. Joint entries are permitted but all parties must be acknowledged on the entry form and all parties must sign the entry form they will then be catalogued accordingly.
  11. Freight to and from the Shepparton Art Gallery and transit insurance is the responsibility of the entrant. The Shepparton Art Gallery accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage that occurs to the work during transit. The Shepparton Art Gallery will insure all works whilst on exhibition at the Shepparton Art Gallery. A small shipping subsidy will be payable by the Shepparton Art Gallery to successful entrants to assist with transport costs.
  12. Work which arrives in a damaged condition is restored at the artist’s expense and only with the permission of the artist. Restoration is undertaken at the discretion of the organisers taking into account degree of damage and time constraints. Restoration may invalidate the work from being for sale but not from the judging.
  13. The Shepparton Art Gallery reserves the right to dispose of any uncollected works as it sees fit after six months from the close of the exhibition.
  14. By completing the entry form and making the work available the entrant warrants that the work is the sole and unencumbered property of the entrant and that there is no inhibitions or restrictions upon the title passing to the Shepparton Art Gallery or La Trobe University in the event the work is a prize winner or chosen as an acquisition.
  15. To comply with Australian Taxation Law, Australian residents’ ABN must be quoted or if a hobbyist, an exemption form must be completed by the entrant.
  16. The Shepparton Art Gallery reserves the right to reproduce any works for archival, catalogue or publicity purposes. The signed entry form is evidence of the entrant’s consent.

All personal information gathered by the Gallery will be used solely for the purpose of administrating the Sidney Myer Fund International Ceramics Award.
