Terms and Conditions of Entry

Artist Eligibility
The Indigenous Ceramic Art Awards are open to Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander artists living in Australia and the Torres Straight. Short listed artists are required to complete a Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Form available via the gallery’s website. Employees, partners and children of the organisers, judges, sponsors or selected committee representatives are ineligible to enter. Applicants who are currently living in Victoria are eligible for the SPCA Factory Sales Victorian Prize, and automatically entered into this category.
Acquisitive Awards
Acquisitive awards provide prize money for the selected entry in return for the Shepparton Art Gallery acquiring the artwork into their permanent collection. Winning works will no longer be listed as for sale.
Entries
All entries must be original artwork and the property of the artist/s entering the exhibition. Collaborative artworks are permitted and all contributing artists must be listed. A single contact must be provided on the entry form. Artwork previously exhibited in Victoria or having previously won an art prize or award are not eligible for entry.
Entry Deadline and Fee
Entries received after the due date, 21st September will not be accepted unless the artist has applied for an extension and that extension has been granted. There is no entry fee to enter artwork in this award.
Number of Entries
Artists are limited to enter up to three different artworks.
Photographs
Photographs of artwork should be submitted as jpg files on CD or emailed to icaa@shepparton.vic.gov.au Three images of each entry are required, comprising two different side views, and one detail image. Each image file must be labelled with the name and title of the artwork and not exceed 500kb in file size and be between 800-1000 pixels.
Timeframe
Artworks must be completed within 9 months of the application deadline.
Size and Weight
Artists are not constrained by size or weight. However the cost of transporting artworks to Shepparton Art Gallery is the responsibility of the artist. The gallery advises you that the size and weight of artwork will affect the transit costs you artists have to pay. A small shipping subsidy will be made available to short-listed artists at the time of their artworks return.
Pricing your artwork
All entered artworks must be available for sale. Short-listed artists will be required to complete a new supplier form should their work sell, as payment can be made via EFT deposit into their account. Artists are required to state the wholesale price for their artworks; which is the price which they will receive in the event the work sells. A commission of 22% including GST will be applied to this amount by the Shepparton Art Gallery to arrive at the retail price.
Australian Taxation Law
To comply with Australian Taxation law, short-listed artists must quote their ABN or if a hobbyist an exemption form must be completed by the entrant.
Acknowledgement and Copyright
The artist has the sole responsibility for ensuring that the work does not infringe another creator’s copyright and intellectual property. Artworks by Indigenous artists are subject to Aboriginal laws with regard to the use of traditional designs. All artists agree that Shepparton Art Gallery may use images of pre-selected artworks to promote the awards program without further permissions.

Preselection

Steering Committee
This award is administered by the Shepparton Art Gallery. The steering committee comprises representatives of the funding partners, two independent Indigenous representatives, a member of Shepparton’s Indigenous community and the Director, Shepparton Art Gallery. This committee advises the gallery on the regulation and administration of the award.
Judging
The judging panel comprises three artists or specialists in the field of Indigenous and/or ceramic art and a chairperson nominated by the steering committee.
Non-consideration and disqualification
The judges and the Gallery Director reserve the right to disqualify pre-selected works should the work be unworthy, unsafe, poorly constructed or not meeting the entry criteria.
Non-awarding of prizes
Prizes may not be awarded where judges deem there to be insufficient entries to create competition or entries are not to a standards where prizes can be awarded. Judges have the authority to determine an award be shared between entrants.
Pre-selection of Prizes
Judges will shortlist entries via the viewing of supplied images. 40 artworks will be selected for exhibition. Short listed artists will be notified by phone and letter in the beginning of October. Artists short listed are required to have their artwork delivered to the Shepparton Art Gallery by Monday 22nd October to secure their place in the award. Artworks will be judged at the gallery by the panel in the first week of November.
Award Winners
Award winners will be notified in mid November and an invitation issued to them to travel to Shepparton for the award announcements and launch. A weekend of cultural exchange activities will be co-ordinated by the gallery. The gallery will cover winning artists travel and accommodation costs while in Shepparton should they wish to participate in these activities. Details of these arrangements will be made in negotiation with winning artists.
Exhibition
The award exhibition will be curated by Shepparton Art Gallery and subject to our venue requirements and regulation.
Insurance and freight
The entrant is responsible for the freight and insurance costs of despatching their artwork to the gallery. The gallery is responsible for the insurance of the pre-selected artworks upon their arrival at the gallery and while the works are in their care and custody until the deadline for receipt of work passed or the work is sold.
Damaged works
Works which arrive in a damaged condition may be repaired at the discretion of the gallery and at the artist’s expense. The gallery reserves the right to disqualify damaged works from the award and exhibition
Return and Collection of Works
The cost of the return of artworks is the responsibility of artists. The gallery offers a small shipping subsidy which is paid as a reimbursement once works have been despatched for return. The gallery will package the artworks in materials provided by the artist and make arrangement for return. Works will not be despatched until payment has been received.
