Conditions of Entry

Entrants
- This is an Australian and international exhibition competition. All styles of work are acceptable for entry providing the work is predominantly made from ceramic which has been produced by the artist. Each artist may submit one entry. The Director of the Shepparton Art Gallery as the administrator of the Award reserves the right to reject an entry if it is considered not to meet the stated criteria for entry.
- The images, exhibition brief, entry form and C.V. must be received by the Shepparton Art Gallery by Friday 2 April 2010, via online application on this website.
- The exhibition brief must include a physical description of the proposed exhibition together with a conceptual rationale for the work.
- Artists must stipulate which category they are applying for. All artists applying must have ceramics as their primary arts practise. Artists applying for the Emerging Australian category must have been producing less than ten years. All applications for the award are to be completed online.
- The artwork for exhibition may or may not already be in existence. Where the work has not been made/finished, artists must be mindful that they have six months to complete the project from notification of selection.
- Artists are required to submit 5 images of previous work, and 3 to 5 images which relate to their proposed exhibition. These may be of work in progress, plans or drawings or of finished pieces. Each image should be no greater than 500kb and 800 - 1000 pixels.
- The images must be of the artists actual work. The artists name and the title of the work must appear as the image title file name. All images and curriculum vitaes will be retained by the gallery for archival purposes.
- Late entries will not be accepted.
- All entries must be the original work of the entrant, executed within the 12 months prior to the date of entry and have not been previously exhibited.
- Joint entries are permitted but all parties must be acknowledged on the entry form and cvs submitted.
- A judging panel made up of three people will determine Award recipients. The panel will include the Director of the Shepparton Art Gallery, an Australian and an International ceramicist, curator or ceramic professional.
- Recipient artists will be chosen from the entries sent to the Shepparton Art Gallery. Artists must stipulate which category they are entering at the time of their application.
- By completing the entry form and making the work available the entrant warrants that the work is the sole and unencumbered property of the entrant and that there are no inhibitions or restrictions upon the title passing to the Shepparton Art Gallery in the event the work is chosen as an acquisition.
- To comply with Australian Taxation Law, Australian residents' ABN must be quoted or, if a hobbyist, an exemption form must be completed by the entrant.
- The Shepparton Art Gallery reserves the right to reproduce any works for archival, catalogue or publicity purposes. The submitted entry form is evidence of the entrant's consent.
Recipient Artists
- Recipient artists will be required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the gallery which outlines their obligations on receipt of the award. The recipients of the Australian and International award category will receive AUD$25,000 direct deposit to their nominated account within one month of signing the Memorandum of Understanding, and the recipient of the Emerging Australian category AUD$5,000.
- Recipient artists will be required to create a body of artwork in keeping with their submission description ready for freight to the gallery by 23rd October 2010. The artwork must be finished, in an excellent condition and not be damaged at the time of collection.
- Recipient artists submit their application and artwork for exhibition on the understanding that one work will be selected for the Shepparton Art Gallery's collection at the Director's discretion, and additional funds will not be paid for this acquisition. This is an acquisitive award.
- Additional "Special Acquisitions" may or may not be made by the Shepparton Art Gallery. If a work is chosen as a "Special Acquisition" the entrant will be paid the stated sale price for the works less the commission charged by the Shepparton Art Gallery.
- Recipient artists are required to present a floor talk and/or slide presentation on their work during the associated seminar weekend from Saturday 27th November to Monday 29th November 2010 at Shepparton Art Gallery. The gallery will pay for airfares, transport and accommodation for recipient artists to attend the seminar program and present. Any other costs will be borne by the artists.
- The Shepparton Art Gallery will publish a fully illustrated catalogue of the exhibition, together with three 1500 word essays, addressing each of the recipients' work.
- The Gallery Director has the right to withdraw from the exhibition any work if it is considered to be significantly different from the work described in the application and if it is of a quality considered unsuitable for an international competition and exhibition.
- The Shepparton Art Gallery will insure all works from the time that they leave the artists' studio to their return.
- Shepparton Art Gallery will arrange and pay for the cost of all transport of artworks.
- Where relevant, artists are required to submit plans and instructions for the installation of their artworks, and have their works fully prepared for installation.
- All exhibited works must be for sale and a 22% commission including GST will be charged by the Gallery on works sold.
- Work which arrives in a damaged condition may or may not be restored and only with the permission of the artist. Restoration is undertaken at the discretion of the gallery taking into account degree of damage and time and financial constraints. Restoration may invalidate the work from being for acquisition but still be exhibited.
All personal information gathered by the Gallery will be used solely for the purpose of administrating the Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramics Award.
